Startupizer preferences - General
General section
-
Allow Startupizer manage login items
Enables or disables Startupizer altogether. This is main "on/off" switch. If checked, Startupizer is added to System Preferences login items list and handles login items. If unchecked, Startupizer is removed from System Preferences while all items in it's database are added, so on next login all items will be started (without any startup conditions of course). You should usually leave this option checked.
On Startupizer launch section
-
Launch items
Enables or disables items execution after Startupizer is launched.
-
Prevent if launched manually
Enables or disables execution of items when Startupizer is launched manually, by double clicking it's icon in Finder. This lets you open Startupizer to tweak it's data without having it execute it's items. Note that you can still manually execute items through main menu any time Startupizer is launched.
Note: This option is experimental and only works after full computer boot. It may not work correctly when merely logging out and back in to your user account. -
Quit when finished, in
Enables or disables Startupizer automatically quitting after executing items. You can also select the amount of time before quit. Note that Startupizer only quits if all items were launched succesfully and there's no new item in System Preferences. In such case, it'll start counting down the time and quit when done.
On awake from sleep section
-
Launch items
Enables or disables items execution after awaking the computer from sleep.
Launch options section
-
Delay items launch by
Enables or disables a delay before executing items. You can also select the amount of delay time. This can be used to give you time to press desired modifier keys combination or prevent the launch prior to launching the items. Note that the same setting is used for any launch: after launching Startupizer, after awake from sleep or manually launching the items
-
Delay each item by
Enables or disables a delay between each item. You can also select the amount of delay time. Although Startupizer launches items in the same order as displayed in the main window, they are launched so fast that it seems like it's simulaneous. By adding a little bit of delay, you can make the launch more serialized. Useful for making sure various menu bar applications maintain their order on every launch for example.
Note: You might confuse this setting with delay items. They both serve the same purpose, but while this setting affects the launch of every item, delay items give you more granular options but at expense of less readable items list and more work while setting up.
Notes on various usage patterns
- If you're frequently shutting down and restarting your computer, you might want to have Launch items on Startupizer launch checked. Optionally you can also check Quit when finished, in, so that Startupizer will automatically close after execution.
- If you're putting your computer to sleep instead of shut it down, you might want to have Launch items on awake from sleep checked and Quit when finished, in unchecked - if Startupizer closes after execution, it'll not be able to handle items after awaking from sleep! You can leave Launch items on Startupizer launch checked, so that you'll also get your preffered setup for times you do shutdown (software upgrade for example).
